do di do do...do di do do...do di do do...do di do do...

 Submitted for your consideration....

Meet Tim Duffy, casual racer and full time geek.

Tim thinks he knows how things work. Thinks he understands cause and effect.

Trying to speed up his car's reaction time, to get in the five zone, Tim raises his launch RPM from 700 RPM off idle to 1600 RPM off a two step rev limiter. Tim's light was 0.487 red - too quick.

So Tim lowered the two step RPM to 1400 RPM... and went redder - 0.471 RT.

So Tim lowered the two step RPM further to 1300 RPM... And went redder still - 0.456 RT.

Desperate for a green light, in the KOH first round, Tim was lured to the dark side of the force and added a delay capacitor, worth 0.055 to the line lock relay, removed all the rings from his delay button, and took five pounds out of the front tires. A quick calculation suggested that Tim should expect a 0.550 RT. Plenty good enough for first round competition.

Tim was rudely greeted with the rubyest of ruby reds. A 0.455 RT.

Tim did not understand that he had entered......... The RedLight Zone -  do di do do...do di do do...do di do do...do di do do...

That's the Ugly - here's the Good -

New performance best milestones:
  ET - 7.184
  60' - 1.530

Suspension & tires - hooking every time, every track, very happy

Exhaust roller rockers - did I mention the 7.184 ET?

Jet extensions - successful - The lean spikes at acceleration points are reduced to 1/2 point. Running a bit rich in first gear - probably too much pump or fuel puddeling from the two step. No changes planned. Graph is --> HERE.

Pinion angle - the vibration was never a factor at Irwindale. Evaluation will have to wait for PSCA at Fontana. Meanwhile I'm relieved that the change did not mess up my great setup, and it is easier on my u-joints.

Next week - How to get out of - The RedLight Zone.

Any ideas?
