ONE STINKING DROP
NPT fittings are just a spiral leak.
Thursday morning I had a small
leak in a NPT fitting used to connect my pressure switch to the
front brake line. I loosened the tube fitting so I could tighten it
down. I cranked the hell out of it - to the point of stripping fear.
After I tightened and bled that section I jammed the brake pedal
down with a stick to hold pressure.
I had other tasks to perform. The new cap and rotor came in, the
master cylinder heat shield was not yet installed, and I needed to
check the timing.
Three times over the course of doing those tasks I checked the
fittings and all was dry every time.
It was late. But I was going. After a shower I did my safety checks,
filled my cooler and loaded it in the car.
Ready to go. One last check for leaks.
One stinking drop. Crap. No go. I went to watch anyhow.
Master Cylinder:
The last master cylinder lasted two whole weeks. The MC is just
above the fender well headers. I did not have the heat shield on
that one - because its ugly. Did it fail from heat? Or did it fail
because perhaps I did not have a good bleed on the rear brakes? If
the rear brakes were not bled completely would that create a
pressure differential between the sections that would put unusual
stress on the front section's piston seal. Just guessing cause I
haven't had one apart in 30 years and I don't remember what's in
there.
Springs:
New springs are in and scheduled for installation on Wednesday.
That's cutting it close. Last time I ordered four springs in case
they screwed it up. I sent two back. This time there were only two
in stock. If they screw it up I'm - well - screwed. Hope to be there
Thursday.
KOH:
Not many cars there on Thursday. There were only seven cars in KOH.
Marvin got the bye as usual. Don't know who won.
