KING OF MOST OF THE PILE
Gotta go tire shopping!
There were 13 cars in KOH last night. The Pro and Super Pro cars
were on hand to tune up for Sunday's Summit Series.
First round I raced half of Kenny Snow. Kenny was actually all there
but none of his car was. Kenny's car is getting a four-link back
half and with the Summit Series pending he borrowed a car to race on
Sunday. Kenny raced Teo's red primer Vega that was in the Pinks
All Out Las Vegas race. Teo made it to the final round.
I'm guessing the car was not working well. I saw an earlier attempt
and Kenny aborted after 60 ft.
So - except for getting me to the next round, this race does not
count. I'm still 0 for 3 with Kenny and looking forward to my next
opportunity.
Second round was Marvin's flamed Vega. Marvin is first in the Summit
Series PRO class and has made the final round every race. He broke
out by 0.001 - but it would not have mattered as I had the race at
the starting line.
Third round was a yellow Chevelle. Forgot his name. He normally
races open comp in PSCA. Good car. He'd been running
Irwindale's test and tune for several weeks in preparation for his
first KOH. He went 0.457 red.
Fourth lap was Branko's Camaro. Foot brake racer's in the final
round again - yeah! We agreed to split the pot and race for fun.
Branko went red.

The attached graph shows the same old tire wobble. The alignment did
not effect the problem. Tires are again the leading suspect.

Launch testing was not fruitful. Here are the results of the four
attempts:
1.) Tickled the throttle just up to the two step limit (about 1800
RPM) against the line lock. Spun hard on the launch - no weight
transfer. 0.743 RT, 7.56 ET
2.) Same launch, different lane, same result. 0.476 RT, 7.56 ET
3.) Floored the throttle against the two step with the line lock
holding. Spun hard on launch - no weight transfer. 1.006 RT, 7.58
ET
4.) Brake torque hard with the foot brake only. No buttons. Spun
hard on launch - no weight transfer. 0.495 RT, 7/55 ET.
For KOH I went back to launching off idle as usual. I had a turn or
two of spin every round.

I race Sportsmen's class in the Summit series so I have to
re-configure the car. No electronic delays allowed.
I'll put the vacuum carb on with the secondary throttle stop. That
launches on two barrels. I'll reduce the pump nozzle to further
soften the launch.
I'm hoping to get a test and tune lap after the race. I'll remove
the throttle stop to get a top speed comparison with the BG double
pumper in hot weather. I suspect the BG carb is a bit small.
