FOOL ON THE HILL
First round of King of
the Hill I drew Marvin and his red flamed Vega. Marvin is a very
good racer - he's number one in the Summit Series Pro class and has
been to the finals in every race. I figured my only chance to win
was a great light and run the number.
Marvin handed me a gift - a 1/10th R.T. advantage - but I could not
cut the ribbon. I crossed the line standing on the brakes but I
still broke out by 0.02. That was the best run of the night - a 7.38
and equaling my best ever 1.587 60' time.
The 4-link setup I've been experimenting with stepped up big time
with some excellent hooking after early round adjustments of tire
pressures, top bar pre-load and shock settings. I'll keep this setup
for a while and see how far I can take it. The real test is if it
hooks up first round when the track is almost always in poor
condition. I've learned form experience not to get excited about
later round traction success.
Launching with 4 barrels open is sweet. Gotta hang on tight. The
attached graph shows the Barry Grant double pumper is still running
lean. I had leaned the primaries 1 jet size and richened the
secondaries 3 jet sizes and all that made very little difference.
The air/fuel ratio cruising to the track was low 13's - same as last
time. The WOT AFR was improved just a little. Cooler air yesterday
though. I'll try richening the jets one more time before I tamper
with the air bleeds.
