PRE=COGNITIVE TRANSMISSION
MYSTERY
Results were mixed. First two laps had minor wheel spin at the hit so I
dialed the front shocks to zero/zero and went 7.333 with a 1.587
short time. Both new performance bests. Need to hit these
tires harder - bar changes are
in order.
Good reaction times all day long, first round was 0.513, until the KOH
semi finals where I took a nap waiting for the tree. With a
0.689 reaction time the transmission mystery was not a factor
in the loss but interesting none the less.
Here's what happened. I set the 1-2 shift light at 4600 RPM and the
transmission shifts to second at 5800. I set the 2-3 shift light
at 5400 and the transmission shifts to third at 5800. On my final
run, the KOH semi's, I moved the lever to second and the
transmission shifted to second immediately. And then it
shifted to third all by itself - before I moved the shifter
again. This was verified by my recording tach back in the
pits.
Driving home I was thinking - is it broken or is it fixed. Is shifting
immediately the way it's supposed to work - and has it been broken
all along? I like the idea that it would shift immediately -
eliminates a whole
bunch of time taking variables. But then what's with the pre-cognitive 2-3
shift? That can't be right.
Then I had an epiphany. I won't spoil the surprise. Can you figure it out?
