I POOCHED IT

There are two good ways to be consistent on the tree. The second is the rhythm method. Blink Blink Go. Blink Blink Go. You leave on the anticipation of the bottom yellow bulb, in rhythm. Playing with this method on the practice tree has convinced me that it is workable. If your car leaves the line slowly, with practice, you can use this method and win.

My car does not leave slowly. I use the first method - wait till you SEE THE YELLOW. Or wait till you see the yellow DAMIT!

As Hugo is always going on about, its very hard to not anticipate the yellow. That's why he has gone over to the dark side of the force. He has become, queue the horns, BOX BOY. Ta Da!!

His point is valid. It takes a lot of practice, and focus, and determination to ignore the first two yellows.

Last night I didn't have that focus.

KOH
I was lucky to get around Hugo first round with a lousy 0.56x something light. His 0.508 light was stellar but my closer dial in served me the double break out victory.

Second round I drew Marvin. Marvin's RT left the door wide open - but I couldn't walk through it. I watched those damn yellows coming down - 0.472 red. I pooched it.

QUICK FUEL 1050 CARBURETOR
I was probably fretting about my 1050 carburetor. I had it ready to go Thursday morning. After replacing the leaky needle/seat, that I discovered last week, I was eager to try it. One pass on the street left me disappointed. It has a huge lean bog. Stomp on the gas and - nuttin, nada, zero, zilch - for several moments then hang on - vroom.

I've got 50cc pumps on both ends. The primary nozzle is the biggest it can be and not have a rich stumble on the street. The secondary nozzle is the biggest they make.

So I reinstalled the BG 800 in a thrash. I had to remove my carefully calibrated "go slow" stuff. Second pass that night the 800 bogged!! Not a huge bog like the 1050 but what the hell!! The BG carb has never bogged - not even a little. The data dump shows the A/F ratio spiked to 20. Well - I'm hoping that after I check everything carefully I'll find a problem of some sort. I can't afford to lose any more hair.

So I was fretting about that in the lanes too.

I have lots of ideas for the 1050 carb. I hope to race it next Saturday at Fontana.

Watch me pull a rabbit out of the hat. Roar!!! ( HINT : "We must keel moose and squirrel ")

More later.

Cheers,
800 Tim
